Passionately Pink for Aunt Jan
Julia Williams tells us why she is participating in Race for
the Cure:
“This will be my 11th Race for the Cure!” says Julia Williams.
I have a lot of passion for this cause in honor and celebration of my Aunt Jan. I create a team each year and commit to
finding at least 10 people to join, I get
friends and family to help me reach my goal. I would love to find a couple
Survivors to join my team (my treat!). Even
before I knew about the promise between two sisters, I made a promise to my
Aunt Jan that I would get my first mammogram early. She was told she didn't need a mammogram,
even though she had a family history. At
age 35 when she was diagnosed, she was told that the tumor had been growing no
less than 7 years. She fought a
courageous 7-year battle and we lost her on November 11, 2002. That is why I am
so very passionate about finding the cure, raising awareness, and empowering
women to be their own best advocate when it comes to their breast health. My
Aunt was like a mother and sister; she had a very positive impact on my
life. Early detection saves lives. I race for Aunt Jan. Team Passionately Pink for Aunt Jan.

Green Flash Brewing Company
This year’s Race season brings a brand-new sponsor
that we’re very excited to announce! Green Flash Brewing Company, a San Diego
based brewery, will open its doors to a new Virginia Beach location in January
2015, but they’re already giving their support to the Komen Tidewater
Affiliate! Green Flash VP of Marketing and Co-Founder Lisa Hinkley is a 3-year
breast cancer survivor. She has developed the Treasure Chest Charitable Giving
Program to raise money for breast cancer charities – the SGK Tidewater
Affiliate being one of them! Green Flash will be providing beer for The High
Heels for the Cure event, supporting and providing beer for the Movin’ the
Mermaid program, sponsoring the Survivor Race Day Hospitality area, and will
even have a team participating in the 2013 Race for the Cure. Thank you for
your generous support! For a taste of what Green Flash has to offer, three of
their brews are on tap at the Yardhouse (Virginia Beach Town Center).
