1st Annual Corn Hole for the Cure

We would like to thank The LIKE Fund for their fundraising event, Cornhole for the Cure, on March 5, 2016. 100% of the proceeds went to Komen Tidewater! Their contributions will help to bring breast cancer awareness and treatments support services to the Tidewater area.

The LIKE Fund raises money for charities in the Tidewater area. They have a strong commitment to support organizations that benefit our community. Read more

Special thanks to SAM’s Club and their staff for both their ongoing support for Komen Tidewater and Cornhole for the Cure. Their dedication to ending breast cancer forever is extraordinary.

Last but not least, we truly appreciate each and every volunteer that supported us at Cornhole for the Cure. Our volunteers are not only dedicated to ending breast cancer forever but they are integral part of our Komen Tidewater family. We have an amazing group of women and men that help to move our mission forward and we want to commend them for their continued efforts.

Local Youth Fundraising Spotlight!

IMG_4106.jpeg

We are honored to introduce you to Hannah, Ava, and Leah. These young ladies have raised money for Komen Tidewater for over 3 years now!

It started with duct tape purses and wallets one year, bottle top magnets the next, and now this year they have raised $200 by selling cake pops and lemonade in their neighborhood, but hang on!  Because of the generous matching of $200 from local business, London Bridge Trading, that $200 turned into $400!

These girls have a personal connection to cancer. Ava and Hannah lost their grandmother to breast cancer after a 12 year battle, and Leah’s grandmother has battled cancer also. They started fundraising in honor of these important women in their lives.

We want to thank this wonderful and caring group of young women for their hard work! Their fundraising will help us put money back into our community in the form of grants for local breast health programs, diagnostics, education, and screenings. Stay tuned for their plans for 2016! They have made a goal of raising more each year than the previous year!

Improving Length And Quality Of Life For People Living With Metastatic Disease

Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is cancer that originated in the breast but has spread to other parts of the body, such as liver, lung, bones and brain. It causes less than 40,000 deaths every year in the U.S., a number that has remained unchanged for three decades.

This alarming fact is driving the advocate-led Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance (“the Alliance”) to convene 60 experts from patient advocacy, academia, industry and government to discuss barriers in MBC research and possible solutions to better coordinate and accelerate research and translation to help patients sooner.

In 2014, the Alliance released its Changing the Landscape for People Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer Report, which analyzed 224 clinical trials, 2281 funded research grants, 7900 MBC patient responses to surveys and 175 literature articles on quality of life and epidemiological studies.
