Breast Cancer News: Death Rates from
Invasive Breast Cancer Declining
A comprehensive analysis of breast cancer survival data published in the Journal
of Clinical Oncology shows that death rates from invasive breast cancer in
the U.S. have declined. Researchers found that death rates decreased by almost
one-third, from 33.5 percent in 1988 to 23.5 percent in 2010. Improvements in
outcomes were seen in both early-stage and late-stage diagnoses. This is a
prime example of the impact of Komen funded research.

Tell Me Your Story breast
cancer survivors series
Sharing
your story about your journey through breast cancer can not only help others
cope but writing/sharing can be a way of getting your feelings out. It can
validate what you're experiencing and can also provide an outlet for emotions
that are difficult to share with others. It allows you to reflect on what
you're going through or what you’ve been through. Sharing stories of hardship can let people connect with
and comfort other people who are/were in the same position. Tell us your Story.
Laura
Elizabeth Ranno
Laura
was a Boston native and a mother. She was 28 years old when she passed away
from breast cancer. For 4 years, Laura experienced pain in her back, shoulders
and breast area. The doctor’s opinion or inexperience with breast cancer,
Laura’s young age and likely her underinsured status contributed to her not
receiving the tests that would have lead to the proper diagnosis. Laura was not treated for almost 3
years. At 27, she was diagnosed with a
later stage of breast cancer. Join the fight for women like Laura and Race for the Cure on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Register Today.

Power of Pink
Celebrate, Support and Remember. Once again the Virginian-Pilot will
run a special section in October, The Power of Pink. This section is
devoted to telling the stories of those who have been touched by breast
cancer and the supporters who are making an impact on their lives and
lives of the families. We all know these special people, the survivors,
the loved ones we hold in our heart who lost their battle, the
co-survivors, the doctors, and the care providers, the list can go on.
Think about these individual and enter your nominations today. Too many
tears have been shed this year, it serves as a reminder that Susan G.
Komen’s mission is not yet complete, however we are making a difference
and one day we will live in a world without breast cancer. Follow this
link to submit your nomination. Power of Pink
